Grad Update: FINAL UPDATE

I had my interview with Florida State on Wednesday. It went well I thought. She told me afterwards that they only take 10-12 people into the program. From there, only half get assistantships. She also said that most people come to Massachusetts for their summer internships ("cause the weather's so nice up there"... I laughed - but then realized the summer in FL probably sucks). So I was really pumped about FSU but when she said 10 get accepted, I started re-evaluating my other options.

As of Sunday, I had acceptances to UMiami, Shenandoah and BU. NYU and Carnegie Mellon were no's and I already decided I didn't want to go to NC Arts.

So I went to BU on Friday and spoke to one of the heads of the program. BU's program is really global and generalized which on one hand is amazing cause I can pretty much do anything with it in terms of the arts. There are also so many different options in terms of internships. The program there is a night program so I'd be working during the day. I'd be taking classes over the summer too I guess - part time the whole way.

Well yesterday I got a letter from FSU. It was a thin one and when I got it I remembered Stef and I weighing the BU and NYU letters last week and noticing that BU had multiple pages and NYU's didn't (did I care? not particularly...). I braced myself for the inevitable. For some reason when I read these letters - I don't ever actually read them either. I look directly to the right side of the first sentence (cause I must figure that's where the word "accepted" or "regret to inform" would be..). I couldn't see it though. So I start from the beginning...

"I am pleased to inform you that you are being recommended for acceptance into the Master f Music Program in Arts Administration at Florida State University, effective Fall 2007. Congratulations"

And there was no discussion. There will be no discussion. In 5 months, I'll be living in Tallahassee, FL (so long as I graduate and stay above a 3.0 which shouldn't be that hard...)!!! I still can't believe it.. really. I cried most of yesterday - just unbelievable. And I could still do an internship in Boston if I wanted - so I get the best of both worlds.
