I rarely write about issues... mostly cause I rarely feel strongly about major world issues enough to write about them. I'm usually easily influenced by other people's convincing arguments over issues that I have very little to write about them myself. This is a huge exception. Maybe I'm totally wrong and don't know what I'm talking about but here goes...
I was taught that the Olympics were originally created to take peace from war and conflict for friendly competition. Obviously some things have changed over the years but the fact that everyone seems to be making this year's Olympics into a huge political fest is making me crazy. I think it's great that our President (as much as I don't like him) is over there at the ceremonies. It says he's putting all our differences aside. The theme is "One World, One Dream". The fact that people feel the need to boycott or protest over the 2008 Olympics simply because it's being held in a country has different views is ridiculous. NOW, I myself do not agree with what's going on over there - with how they treat human rights and what have you - and mostly stuff that I will admit to not really understanding or knowing what's going on, just knowing it's not right.. - and if I was a true blogger, I'd go look it up and throw a stink about it, but I'm not.
What I'm saying, I just wish that the public would stop criticizing this years games based on the hosts ideals, and whether or not our president should be there and whether or not he should be speaking or sitting next to certain people (China, Russia, whoever). What happened to the true Olympic ideals?
I also think the opening ceremonies are showing the country in a great light. But maybe I'm naive.
